Driver Education: Classroom and Behind the Wheel - 09650/09660
Session 1 AND Session 2 / In-Person
Grades: 9-12Driver Education is a high-demand program with a fixed number of seats. Students must be 15 years of age or older by May 1, 2024, to register. Once rostered, students must attend every class for the entire six weeks (June 10-July 25) as there is no “make-up” option available. If attendance flexibility is required, please consider alternative private options.
In April, registered students will be given information about obtaining an Illinois State Learner’s Permit, which requires a permit application generated by District 214. Registered students must obtain their instructional permit by May 24, the Friday before finals week.
Classroom: Students will learn about the complexities of owning and driving an automobile. The class will focus on safe driving techniques and the dangers of impaired and/or distracted driving.
Behind the Wheel: Students will receive 6 hours of behind the wheel instruction in conjunction with the classroom portion of the driver education curriculum. Each student must also hold a valid Illinois permit for nine months and turn sixteen years of age before they can obtain an Illinois driver's license.
