April: Bilingual/Multilingual Learner Advocacy Month
-

April is nationally recognized as Bilingual/Multilingual Learner Advocacy Month, a time to highlight the importance of supporting students who speak multiple languages and come from diverse cultural backgrounds. Bilingual and multilingual learners are the fastest-growing student group in America. This month we celebrate their accomplishments, affirm the assets that they bring to the educational environment, and advocate for the resources they need to succeed in school and life. At D214, our diverse student body represents more than 72 different language groups, with English learners making up 16.4% (approximately 2,100 students) of our total population. This month emphasizes advocacy for equitable educational opportunities, ensuring these students have the resources and support needed to succeed academically and thrive socially. Through events and programs, we raise awareness of how linguistic diversity enhances education and fosters an inclusive school environment.
