District 214 Community,
In a mid-January update on our superintendent search, we advised the community that our consulting firm of Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates (HYA) would be making available a survey to gather thoughts about District 214 and the desired characteristics of the next superintendent.
The community response was at once substantial, gratifying and informative. HYA conducted focus groups, interviews and forums that generated strong participation. In addition, 2,675 stakeholders responded to an online survey.
Using feedback gathered from all of these platforms, HYA has compiled the information into a leadership profile report that has been posted below. In this profile, you will find a summary of stakeholders’ assessments of District 214’s strengths, challenges and priorities, along with the personal and professional qualities sought in the next superintendent. The Board shares HYA’s commitment to recruiting and screening candidates who fit many aspects of this leadership profile.
We appreciate the strong community interest and investment in this process and will continue to provide updates until a decision is made.
Sincerely,
Bill Dussling, President
Board of Education

District 214 Community,
As we previously shared, the Board of Education identified Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates (HYA), a consulting firm that specializes in assisting school boards with the consideration of candidates for superintendent, to support us through the process to identify Dr. Schuler’s successor.
In an effort to seek student, staff, parent, and community input, HYA has created an online survey that you will receive next Wednesday, January 18, via email from the District 214 Research and Evaluation Department. The survey aims to gather your thoughts about District 214 and the desired characteristics of the next superintendent. The information will be compiled into a leadership profile report and will be made publicly available via the District’s website.
We look forward to receiving your thoughts and general feedback and thank you again for your support.
Sincerely,
Bill Dussling
President, Board of Education

District 214 Community,
As the first semester comes to a close, I’d like to provide you with a brief update regarding the process to hire District 214’s next superintendent.
At last night’s Special Board of Education meeting, the Board selected the Hazard Young and Attea (HYA) search firm to conduct a national superintendent search. Part of our consideration in reviewing the available search firms was their ability to work with us in an impartial manner to gather feedback from you, the various stakeholders and the 214 community, that should have a say in helping to define what we should be looking for in our next superintendent.
As part of HYA’s presentation to the Board, HYA outlined its comprehensive process to gather input from various stakeholders to help guide the selection of the next superintendent. HYA has a multiple-step process that includes a broad range of stakeholder surveys and focus groups to create a candidate profile that aligns with the input of the District 214 community. Once the profile is completed and released to the public, HYA will then help identify and narrow down a highly qualified pool of candidates in order to provide the best possible successor to follow Dr. Schuler’s many years of dedicated service to our community.
You can access the HYA presentation and other information regarding the search at this page on our website. Additionally, we anticipate appointing an interim superintendent in the near future that will help guide the district during this period of transition.
Thank you for your continued support of District 214, and I wish you all the best this Holiday Season.
Sincerely,
Bill Dussling

District 214 Community,
On behalf of the Board of Education, I want to thank Dr. Schuler for his immeasurable contributions to student and staff success and for his leadership in positioning District 214 as one of the nation’s most innovative school systems. We wish him well in his new endeavors and I know that AASA, The School Superintendents Association, (www.aasa.org), will benefit from his vision and student-centered focus.
Regarding his successor, the Board of Education began deliberations and conversations about appointing that individual last evening during the closed session portion of our meeting. As we continue to engage in these discussions, we will keep the staff and community updated and informed.
We look forward to partnering with a superintendent that will continue to build upon the success that we have experienced to date and take us to even higher levels of excellence for every student who walks through our schoolhouse doors on a daily basis.
Sincerely,
Bill Dussling
President, Board of Education
