Rolling Meadows students rock the runway at Macy’s Prom Kick-Off

Published April 7, 2025

Prom season is just around the corner, and Rolling Meadows High School students had the chance to rock the runway as part of an exclusive partnership with Macy’s for their Prom Kick-Off. The event, which took place over spring break, provided students with a first-hand experience of what the fashion industry entails, making for a memorable day filled with exciting opportunities.

The students had their makeup done by talented MAC studio artists and selected multiple looks for different segments of the event. The atmosphere was electric, with students grooving to the beats provided by the DJ, and each model was sent home with a swag bag to remember the fun day.

“Many of my students come in thinking that they can only get a job in the fashion industry by moving to New York. This experience introduced them to so many different careers in the industry and I think that exposure is so important at this stage“ said Family and Consumer Science teacher Kimmi Krupicka, who has been organizing this event for the past three years. “A model’s job isn’t about looking pretty, it’s about selling and marketing the clothes. By working with Macy’s, I think my students recognized how business-focused the fashion industry really is.”

As part of the partnership, Macy’s is lending dresses for the school’s upcoming Spring Fashion Show on May 2. The show will feature a prom trends segment with senior volunteers, followed by a second segment showcasing custom looks created by Fashion Construction students.

“I am so proud of the students who model the Macy’s clothes, but I am always so impressed with the students that create their own garments. Having other Mustangs come and celebrate all of their hard work at the Fashion Show is truly one of my favorite days of the year,” said Krupicka.

With Macy’s continued support, the Spring Fashion Show promises to highlight students' creativity and hard work, celebrating the talents of the next generation of fashion designers.
