Leadership changes in D214: New roles for Dr. Bradford Hubbard and Dr. Lazaro Lopez

Two visionary leaders are taking on new roles in District 214, signaling an exciting future for the district’s students and community. Beginning July 1, 2025, Dr. Bradford Hubbard will step into the position of Associate Superintendent for Teaching and Learning, while Dr. Lazaro Lopez will transition to Executive Director of the District 214 Education Foundation and Career Pathways. These appointments underscore District 214’s commitment to innovation, academic excellence and career readiness.
Since joining Wheeling High School in 2022, Dr. Hubbard has fostered a positive school culture, emphasizing student and staff well-being, sense of belonging and academic excellence. His leadership has been instrumental in creating an environment where students and staff feel valued and supported, furthering the district’s mission to prepare all students for success.
“Dr. Hubbard’s ability to build relationships and inspire collaboration has had a transformative impact on the Wheeling community,” said Dr. Scott Rowe, Superintendent of District 214. “We are confident that his expertise and passion for public education will strengthen our district’s instructional programs and continue to drive innovation.”
Dr. Lopez, currently serving as Associate Superintendent for Teaching and Learning at High School District 214, has been instrumental in establishing the district as a national leader in career-connected education. His leadership has expanded work-based learning experiences, dual-credit opportunities and innovative programs that align classroom learning with real-world opportunities. Under his guidance, thousands of students have saved time and money graduating better prepared for college, careers and life.
As Lopez approaches retirement in 2027, he remains focused on strengthening the foundation’s mission of supporting students and creating new opportunities. “The Education Foundation supports our community, opens doors for our students and creates life-changing opportunities,” said Dr. Lopez. “I am honored to lead these initiatives and look forward to working with our team, supporters and community partners to expand our impact.”
With Dr. Hubbard and Dr. Lopez in these new roles, District 214 is poised to continue leading the way in education and career readiness, ensuring a bright future for its students and community.
