D214 celebrates 10 years of summer musicals with 'Mean Girls'

Published June 28, 2023

District 214 is celebrating 10 years of summer musicals with the production of Mean Girls: High School Version. This funny new musical is based on the 2004 movie of the same name.

Mean Girls follows Cady Heron, a teenager who moves from Africa to suburban Illinois. As she navigates fitting in at high school, she takes on The Plastics led by queen bee Regina George. But when Cady devises a plan to end Regina’s reign, she learns the hard way that you can’t cross a Queen Bee without getting stung.

"This show is about women’s voices and strength. We're super excited that we have the opportunity to celebrate some amazing women on this stage,” said Jeremy Morton, the District 214 Fine Arts Coordinator.

The D214 summer musical is a collaboration of students and performing arts teachers from across the District. It has been a popular community event for the past 10 years.

"We’ve had the ability to tell some really great stories, so it’s really an honor and a blessing that our District and our School Board allow us to do such a cool experience in only three or four weeks, which is sometimes unheard of,” said Morton. “These 10 years have been filled with amazing stories, but this is a story I hope many people get to see.”

Mean Girls: High School Version runs June 28-July 1 at 7 p.m. at Rolling Meadows High School. The show is rated PG-13. Get your tickets HERE.
