The Hersey Automotive Program focuses on not only preparing students for a placement into post-secondary automotive educational institutions or careers after graduation, but offers students the basic knowledge every automotive consumer should be aware of.
NATEF Certification
The Automotive Technology Program at John Hersey High School meets the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) Standards for Excellence. NATEF is an independent, non-profit organization with a mission to improve the quality of technician training by setting a standard of excellence for the content being delivered, the industry certification level of the instructor, and the facility. In 2012 Hersey achieved NATEF Certification in all 4 areas available to secondary education training facilities.

Automotive Systems (605)
The second year of the Automotive Technology sequence introduces students to the complex systems of a modern automobile. Each system is discussed in-depth and explored hands-on in a laboratory setting. Students will work on complete cars with industry-standard equipment.

Automotive Diagnostics (606)
In the final course, students will use all of the experiences from Personal Auto & Automotive Systems to complete a major project. This course is designed to be entirely hands-on focusing on custom fabrication, engineering, & design. Students will also work on advanced diagnostics techniques for each of the automotive systems studied in Course 605.
