  • District 214 students leave lasting legacy— tiny homes for veterans

    Sometimes - just sometimes - an amazing learning opportunity aligns with a compelling cause to demonstrably change lives for the better. So it was with Saturday’s Grand Opening of Golden Isles Veterans’ Village in Brunswick, Georgia. Neither educators nor students from District 214 attended, but their fingerprints and positive contributions to the transitional tiny home community for homeless veterans were as evident as if they had made the 1,052-mile trip.

  • Inclusive Creations Fair: Specialized Schools Disability Awareness Celebration

    Creativity, entrepreneurship and community were on full display at the Inclusive Creations Fair at Forest View Educational Center. Over 20 student-run microbusinesses from District 214 and surrounding school districts, along with local entrepreneurs and businesses supporting individuals with disabilities, gathered to showcase their unique creations.

    High School District 214 has recognized eight individuals with its prestigious Distinguished Service Award, an honor given annually to those who have made a lasting impact on the district and its students. This year’s recipients represent a diverse group of volunteers, community leaders, and educators who have demonstrated extraordinary dedication to serving students across the district’s schools and programs.

    The District 214 Board of Education held a workshop February 27, 2025 to discuss long-term facility planning and financial strategies to support essential infrastructure improvements. Board members reviewed facility conditions, explored funding options, and reaffirmed the district’s commitment to providing high-quality learning environments for students.

  • A rare treasure: Hersey High School’s historic copy of "The New Yorker" joins New York Exhibit

    Katie Alexander, the former librarian at John Hersey High School, secured an original copy of The New Yorker magazine from August 31, 1946. This special edition was entirely devoted to John Hersey’s investigative masterpiece, Hiroshima.

  • EGHS bowler scores striking state title

    Julia Korzen was already looking ahead and aiming higher after she earned third place in the IHSA state wheelchair bowling tournament a year ago.  “I'd like to learn more new techniques to better my score,” the Elk Grove High School sophomore said at the time. One year later: Mission accomplished.

    District 214 is pleased to announce that Kate Kraft has been appointed Deputy Superintendent, effective July 1, 2025. Kraft, who currently serves as the Associate Superintendent for Human Resources, has been a dedicated leader in the district for over 15 years, bringing a deep commitment to supporting students, staff and school leadership.
