College Rep and Campus Visits
College Campus Visits
College visits are an important part of the college search process, helping to identify what your son or daughter values in a college campus. To schedule a campus visit search online for the college's admissions page. Find out what types of tours, sessions, and activities may be available. During your visit, try to meet with someone from the admissions office or attend an information session. Ask if they can arrange for you to meet with a professor or representative from the department in which you are interested. Take a tour of the campus, talk to students, have a meal in the cafeteria, and pick up copies of the student newspaper. Some colleges also can arrange for you to sit in on a class or stay overnight in a residence hall.
Students may be excused from high school for a college visit if a parent calls the JHHS Attendance Office in advance to report the absence and the student returns to the Attendance Office with evidence of the visit, such as an admissions representative's business card or a brochure.
Making the Most of a Campus Visit
**Please check with the college to make sure they are offering in-person visits during the Fall of 2020. Most colleges now offer virtual visits!
College Rep Visits to the CCC
Typically, more than 120 college admission representatives visit JHHS each year. This is a great way for you to meet in a small group with admissions officers from your colleges of interest. Visits occur mainly in September to November and again in February through April. Visits are announced on the morning announcements, posted outside the CCC, listed in Naviance, and posted on social media (find us @LifeAfterHersey).
College reps are visiting both in-person and virtually during the 2021-22 school year. Please see the Fall 2021 schedule for the most up-to-date schedule of visits.
In order to attend a visit during a class period, you must pick up a blue pass from the College & Career Center in advance, have it signed by your teacher, and bring it with you to the rep visit.
Students will also be encouraged to participate in other virtual college admissions programming throughout the year on their own time.
College Fairs
All college fairs for the Fall of 2020 will be virtual. This is a great way to build your college search.
