Published January 7, 2025
Daniel Bolash is set to represent District 214 this weekend at the 2025 Illinois High School Theatre Festival (IHSTF), running from January 9-11. As the only D214 student selected, Daniel will serve as a member of the sound crew for the All-State production of The Prom, showcasing his technical expertise alongside the best high school talent in Illinois.
The IHSTF is the nation’s largest and oldest non-competitive high school theatre festival, bringing together students and educators from across the state to celebrate the performing arts. This year’s festival features the Broadway smash hit The Prom—a highlight that unites elite student performers, technicians and musicians from more than 60 high schools across Illinois.
"Working with the All-State team has been an incredible experience. Everyone is so talented and I've learned a lot about theatre and sound engineering. It's also really cool to learn from other people and get to work with new equipment. I can't wait for all the other kids to come down and see this show!" said Daniel Bolash.
Over 300 students auditioned or interviewed for roles in the cast, crew and pit orchestra, with just 113 earning spots in this highly competitive company. Daniel’s selection is a testament to his dedication and skill in the field of technical theatre.
"I'm incredibly proud of Daniel and all the work he's put into this production. This is an amazing accomplishment for any high school student, but to be working at this level as a sophomore is truly remarkable. The entire effort celebrates the collaborative, creative nature of theatre and it's been wonderful to see Daniel shine in this role," said Rolling Meadows High School theater sponsor Stephanie Svarz.
Rehearsals for The Prom have taken place over several weekends throughout the fall, with final preparations happening in the days leading up to the festival. Performances will be held at the Tryon Festival Theatre in the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. These exclusive performances are open only to festival participants, creating a truly special experience for those in attendance.
We are proud to see Daniel representing District 214 at this weekend’s festival and celebrating his remarkable achievement. Congratulations to Daniel and the entire All-State company for their hard work and dedication to bringing this incredible production to life.
