Buffalo Grove High School teacher honored as Chicago Bears Classroom Legend
Published December 13, 2024
Buffalo Grove High School economics teacher Pete Duffer received a big surprise on Friday morning: he was named a Chicago Bears Classroom Legend. To make the moment even more special, Chicago Bears Chairman George H. McCaskey and former Bears defensive lineman Henry Melton were on hand to present the award. This prestigious recognition includes an invitation to the Chicago Bears game on Thursday, December 26, where the Bears will take on the Seattle Seahawks at Soldier Field. Along with tickets to the game, he was presented with a $1,000 check to support his classroom.
Duffer has been teaching at Buffalo Grove High School since 1999, dedicating 25 years to helping students understand economics and prepare for their futures. His passion for teaching and commitment to excellence have made a lasting impact on his students and the school community.
Buffalo Grove High School Principal Jeff Wardle expressed pride in Mr. Duffer’s accomplishment, stating, “We are so excited for Pete Duffer. He is an amazing teacher, and for the Chicago Bears to come and recognize him for all the work he does—both in and outside the classroom—is truly special. He is loved by our entire Buffalo Grove community.”
Duffer’s passion for teaching economics and preparing students for the future is at the heart of his recognition. “I am beyond surprised, honored, and humbled by this recognition. Buffalo Grove High School and D214 have so many excellent teachers and to be recognized for work that I enjoy is incomprehensible. This morning I wore a Bears hoodie without honestly knowing that I was receiving this. The $1,000 is generous and I hope to find some physical capital to use in class to increase productivity (I had to say that as an Economics teacher).”
Over the years, Duffer has earned numerous accolades for his dedication to education. These include the Outstanding Contributions to Education Award in 2008–2009 and 2012–2013, the Golden Apple Teacher of Distinction in 2013, and the Illinois Economics Teacher of the Year in 2013, and Outstanding Contributions to Education in 2024.
The Chicago Bears Classroom Legends program, powered by CDW, honors educators who go above and beyond to inspire and shape the lives of their students. This initiative highlights the vital role teachers play in their communities by awarding unique Bears-themed prizes and financial donations throughout the school year.
Congratulations to Pete Duffer for this well-deserved honor. His commitment to excellence in education continues to make a lasting impact at Buffalo Grove High School and beyond.
