With the excitement of Paris on the horizon, District 214 is beaming with pride as we celebrate the outstanding achievement of six athletes who competed fiercely in the U.S. Olympic Trials. Their participation at this elite level not only reflects their individual achievements but also highlights our commitment to fostering excellence in athletics.

Erin Reese (Prospect ‘14) came in 3rd place in the hammer throw at the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials in Eugene, Oregon. She followed up on her performance by winning first place at an international competition in Canada to secure her spot on Team U.S.A. This will be her first Olympic Games.

David Kendziera (Prospect ‘13) came in 7th place in the 400m hurdles at the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials in Eugene, Oregon. He came in 12th place at the 2020 Tokyo Games.

Rolling Meadows junior Vera Conic competed at the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials in Indianapolis. She came in 19th place in the 200m backstroke and placed 42nd in the 100m backstroke.

Noah Thomas (Hersey ‘22) competed in four events at the U.S. Paralympic Swimming Trials in Minneapolis. He won 1st place in the 100m backstroke, 2nd in the 50m freestyle, 3rd in the 50m butterfly and 3rd in the 100m freestyle.

In February, two District 214 alumni competed in the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials in Orlando. They both were standout cross country runners and both qualified for the Trials after competing in the Chicago Marathon.

Kevin Salvano (Buffalo Grove ‘16) came in 93rd place in the men’s race with a time of 02:23:13.

Hailey Bowes (Hersey ‘17) came in 91st place in the women’s race with a time of 02:44:56.
