Chamber Orchestra

This advanced course emphasizes the standard 18th and 19th century string ensemble literature as well as the works of contemporary composers. Public performance will be an integral part of the course. Members of the Chamber Orchestra are selected by audition and rehearsals take place outside of the school day. Students must be concurrently enrolled in either Concert Orchestra or Symphony Orchestra to participate in Chamber Orchestra.

Color Guard, Fall

Fall Color Guard is an integral part of the Marching Mustangs.  A variety of flag equipment, dance choreography, and drill maneuvers are used in the routines. The entire Marching Mustangs meet on Wednesday nights during the fall and practices of the guard alone are typically 3 days a week from 3:25-5:00 p.m. Students attend the RMHS Early Summer Music Camp for a couple of nights in June/July and the Annual Marching Mustang Band Camp usually in August.  The MM season generally ends the last week of October.  Membership in the Color Guard is determined from a tryout process that takes place in late spring of the preceding year.  It is not uncommon for the Color Guard to have students who play instruments and are enrolled in Concert/Symphonic Band.

Color Guard, Winter

Winter Color Guard is an extension of the fall Color Guard.  The routines are done to recorded music and performed on a basketball court.  A variety of flag equipment, dance choreography, and drill maneuvers are used in the routines.  The Winter Color Guard performs at basketball games and 4 to 5 competitions.  Membership is determined from a tryout in December.  The season lasts from December until late March.  Practices are typically 3 days a week from 3:25-5:00 p.m.

Concert Band

Concert Band is the band class open to all woodwind and brass  instrumental  students.  In the fall all the Band classes combine with the Color Guard to make-up the Marching Mustangs. During the Fall, the Marching Band has weekly night rehearsals, 4 to 5 football game performances, and 3 to 4 marching competitions. The remainder of the year involves indoor Concert Band, where students perform in 3 to 4 concerts and festivals throughout the year.

Concert Orchestra

Concert Orchestra is for violin, viola, cello, bass, harp, and piano students who perform at the intermediate level. The class meets during the school day for one period and performs four to six times each year both in school and the community. Students receive one credit each year they are in class. The course meets the District 214 fine arts requirement.

Instrumental Ensemble (Percussion)

Instrumental Ensemble is open to all percussion students. Class II is the advanced level class. Entry to class II requires successful completion of Class I. Besides class time, students perform in four to five concerts and festivals throughout the year, as well as some contests and athletic events. 

Jazz Band/Ensemble

The Jazz Program is an extension of the Concert and Symphonic band program. We offer two jazz ensembles. These ensembles typically meet once a week at night for two hours and one morning during Zero Block. In order to be in either of the Jazz Bands, all woodwind, brass, and percussion students are required to be enrolled in one of the following daytime music classes: Concert or Symphonic Band, Orchestra, Guitar, or instrumental Ensemble (I or II).

Jazz Combos

Jazz Combos are small ensembles of four to six select musicians and are an outgrowth of the night Jazz Band classes. The groups rehearse mostly on their own and with guidance from the director. Combo players rely heavily on improvisation. The combos perform at numerous concerts and festivals.

Madrigal Brass

Sponsor: Mr. Buti
Madrigal Brass meets during the months of November and December. The Madrigal Brass ensemble performs at the Madrigal dinners. Two trumpets, a trombone, a French horn and a tuba generally make up the ensemble.

Madrigal Strings

Sponsor: Mr. Carroll
Students have the opportunity to perform with Madrigal Strings as a part of the annual Madrigal Dinner. This ensemble has approximately 10 students selected by audition.

Marching Mustangs

Marching Mustangs are made up of all band students enrolled in Concert/Symphonic Band, Instrumental (Percussion) Ensemble I & II, and the Color Guard. The Marching Mustangs members meet as separate classes and combine one night a week during the fall. The Marching Mustangs perform at home football games, parades, and contests.

Pit Orchestra

Pit Orchestra is the small instrumental group that performs at the annual musical production. Students rehearse two or three days a week for six to eight weeks prior to the show.

Show Choir Combo

Sponsor: Mr. Carroll
Show Choir Combo performs with the Choral Department’s Show Choir. This ensemble typically consists of several trumpets, trombones and saxophones, as well as a rhythm section. The group rehearses as needed for upcoming performances. The combo will perform alongside show choir at choir concerts and school assemblies. 

Symphonic Band

Symphonic Band is the upper level band class open to all qualified woodwind and brass instrumental students based upon an audition during the fall. In the fall, all the Band classes combine with the Color Guard to makeup the Marching Mustangs. During the Fall, the Marching Band has weekly night rehearsals, 4 to 5 football game performances, and 3 to 4 marching competitions. The remainder of the year involves indoor Symphonic Band, where students perform in 3 to 4 concerts and festivals throughout the year.

Symphony Orchestra

Symphony Orchestra is for violin, viola, cello, bass, harp, and piano students who perform at the advanced level. The class meets during the school day for one period and performs four to six times each year both in school and the community. Symphony Orchestra achieves full symphonic instrumentation through the addition of selected woodwind, brass, and percussion players from the RMHS bands. Students receive one credit each year they are in class. The course meets the District 214 fine arts requirement.

Acapella

Acapella (Vocal Ensemble 2) meets every Thursday morning as a 0-hour class and every Thursday evening from 6:00-7:30pm as a co-curricular activity. The group is open by audition to all freshmen thru seniors at RMHS. They perform at choral concerts, school assemblies, and community events. 

Choir

Students of all experience levels are encouraged to sign up for a Choir class. Treble Choir and Concert Choir are non-auditioned and open to freshmen through seniors. Vocal Ensemble 1 (Madrigals) is auditioned and open to sophomores thru seniors. Vocal Ensemble 2 (Acapella) is auditioned and open to freshmen through seniors. 

Show Choir

This group combines singing and dancing, incorporating popular musical styles, costumes, and professional choreography. Show Choir rehearses every Thursday from 7:30-9:00pm. They perform at choral concerts and community events. 

Hypno

Sponsor: Mr.Maltese-Miller
Hypno is a hip-hop dance group at RMHS. The group's main focus is to learn and perform various types of hip-hop dance throughout the year. Students do not need prior experience but should be willing to work hard and have fun.

Orchesis

Sponsor: Ms. Varey 
Orchesis is the performing dance company at Rolling Meadows High School. Membership is by audition only and is open to freshmen-seniors. Members of Orchesis are enrolled in the Orchesis technique class during the school day and rehearse for their many performances throughout the year. Orchesis dancers train in the dance styles of jazz, ballet, modern, tap, pointe, contemporary, hip-hop, adagio, and ethnic.

Costume  & Makeup Crew

This club meets after school from 3 to 4:30 p.m. to make and find costumes for the plays and musicals. The club also occasionally meets on Saturdays. During the week of a show, students should be prepared to stay late.

Musical

Sponsor: Ms. Svarz
The RMHS musical auditions in the winter and performs in the spring. It is the biggest theatrical production of the school year, featuring a large cast of singers, actors and dancers, stage crew, and orchestra pit performers.

Tech Crew

Sponsor: Ms. Svarz
The Tech Crew is a community of trained and training technicians who provide artistic and technical services for the Theater productions and events at RMHS each year. All are welcome. No experience necessary. Training is hands on.

Thespian Society 

Sponsor: Ms. Svarz
The Thespian Society is open to sophomore through senior students who have demonstrated a commitment to the RMHS Theatre program. This society can be joined by participating in at least 2 productions during the year. This group organizes fundraisers for the program, service projects in the community, and facilitates the school's annual trip to the Illinois High School Theatre Festival.

Winter Play

The fall and winter plays are dramatic or comedic performances in October and February that give students the opportunity to show off their acting talent with a fun group of peers. Auditions for the fall play  are  in August and auditions for the winter play  are  in November each year. The performances feature a stage crew and a costume crew.

V-Show

Rich with traditions and exciting opportunities, the V-Show features auditioned talent acts from all corners of the RMHS community. The Variety show is produced and directed by a team of students, in partnership with their sponsors. Auditions are in October and the performance is in November.
