Take the most rigorous course load you can handle; Focus on your grades and study habits. GPA is a large factor for college admission.

Attend Freshman and Sophomore guidance activities to obtain valuable information about academic and college/career planning

Explore your extracurricular interests, service clubs and outside interests that will help you develop your resume

Get involved: find a club, activity or sport that interests you. Bonus: look for leadership opportunities within these activities. Can’t find a club? Create your own!

Prepare for taking the PSAT (Sophomore year)

Start planning and exploring career and college options through elective courses

Attend a D214 College & Career Ready! Night and any other postsecondary planning events with your family if possible

Keep open lines of communication with your parents/guardians

Meet with your counselor to discuss your future goals and four year course plan. Consider taking a world language if you haven’t done so already.

Create an ACT student account and take practice tests seriously to gauge areas you need to work on.

Visit the College & Career Center and discuss postsecondary options with the postsecondary counselor; explore scholarships and unique opportunities

Continue to fulfill requirements to be Harper Promise eligible
