  • RMHS vet science students unleash winning effort

    The Rolling Meadows High School Vet Science team finished first at the recent Spring Vet Science Invitational, and is headed to the March 4 state tournament at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. The RMHS team finished first out of 10 teams at the Spring Invitational, with team member Maya Samlan the tournament’s top individual scorer.

  • Wheeling alum teaches importance of religious understanding

    Ben Marcus, a 2009 Wheeling High School graduate, recently was recognized as one of the school’s Distinguished Alumni. Marcus also happens to be one of the country’s leading experts on religious literacy; he has worked to develop policies and standards for teaching about religion in public schools, including District 214.

  • Top-ranked Buffalo Grove Scholastic Bowl seeks another state title

    The Buffalo Grove Scholastic Bowl team is entering the 2023 spring state and national championship season on a roll. Ranked third in the nation, the BGHS team went 8-0 to clinch the Mid-Suburban League East title in January for the fifth straight year.

  • Specialized Schools prepare students for working life

    Under the broader umbrella of District 214’s Specialized Schools, life’s goal is to equip these students to transition into working life at age 22. “Our job is to assess where students’ skills and interests are, to develop goals and to give them experiences that will allow them to attain postsecondary employment,” explains Valerie Norris, Specialized Schools principal.

    Rolling Meadows High School student Kate Foley received the invitation of a lifetime when she was personally invited by First Lady Jill Biden to the State of the Union address.

    Credit the coaching. Credit the dedication and skill of team members who have cheered competitively since childhood. Credit the “newbies” who blended into the team and tapped into potential they didn’t know existed.

  • Hersey's Todd Hatfield earns VFW regional honor

    John Hersey High School multimedia teacher Todd Hatfield recalls one of the last conversations with his father. “He looked right at me and said, ‘You have to keep this going for as long as you can.’” Helping veterans is personal for Hatfield. His father was a Vietnam veteran and was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart for heroic service in combat.

  • McCormick named Illinois Special Education Teacher of the Year

    Nicole McCormick, special education teacher at District 214’s Specialized Schools, has been named Illinois Special Education Teacher of the Year for 2023. McCormick also is a finalist for the statewide Illinois Teacher of the Year award.

  • Ayala named Cook County Co-Regional Teacher of the Year

    Michael Ayala, world languages teacher at John Hersey High School, has been named Cook County Co-Regional Teacher of the Year for 2023. Ayala is also a finalist for the statewide Illinois Teacher of the Year award, which will be announced later this year.
