District 214 announces next superintendent

After nearly 20 years, District 214 has a new superintendent. The Board of Education unanimously approved the hiring of Dr. Scott Rowe, the current superintendent of Huntley Community School District 158.
“I am deeply honored by the Board’s belief and confidence in me and by the opportunity to serve a district with such a well-established record of creating innovative learning experiences. I am eager to get started – to get to know and partner with District 214’s educators, parents, students and all the stakeholders who contribute to its success,” said Dr. Rowe.
Under Dr. Rowe’s leadership, Huntley 158 has grown a national reputation as a leader in transforming public education to best meet the needs of today’s learners. At Huntley High School, where he served as principal for five years, he oversaw the growth of the school’s pioneering Blended Learning Program from a small pilot into an integral part of life at HHS. In 2019, HHS was named by study.com as the country’s number one high school for blended learning.
The selection of Dr. Rowe by the Board caps a 5-month search, coordinated by the consulting firm of Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates and guided by community input in the form of more than 2,500 completed surveys and several focus groups composed of key community stakeholders, including parents, students and staff.
“Our extensive community input shaped our selection process and criteria,” said Board President Bill Dussling. “We are confident that we have found, in Dr. Rowe, a superbly qualified individual who fits the leadership profile created by our community and will work effectively with all key stakeholders to build on our success as a national leader in education.”
Dr. Rowe officially takes on this new role July 1. He succeeds longtime Superintendent Dr. David Schuler, who left District 214 in February for a new role as executive director of the American Association of School Administrators (AASA).
