Community Based Instruction

  • The Community Based Instruction aspect of the life program provides opportunities for student learning in community settings and to generalize skills taught across school environments. Community Based Instruction is designed for students to address functional, academic and daily living skills in the natural environment where a functional skill or activity would be expected to be performed.  A key to Community Based Instruction is to offer experiences across settings to increase student awareness of the variety of functions in their community.  Exposure to new experiences and opportunities to practice skills that adults engage in frequently is intended to promote growing independence in the students' community.
