The semi also provides non-perishable food and emergency assistance with utility bills through the Sandhills/Moore coalition for human care, registers people for WIC, SNAP, Family First, and voter registration through Benefit Bank of North Carolina and GED testing and English classes through the Sandhills Community College.2010 – Developed public awareness campaign for St. Joseph of the Pines to educate county on the homeless problem affecting Moore County, North Carolina.

Commissioned Officer, EnsignEMPLOYMENT
June 1966-June 1968, Sea Duty aboard the Destroyer USS Radford, DD-446. Qualified Officer of the Deck, Underway. Completed two tours in Pacific fleet operating in Yankee Station supporting the Vietnam War effort at sea. Promoted to Lt., (J.G.), USN. Evaluated as a top caliber junior officer.
June 1968-May 1969, orders to duty in I Corps (Northern Sector) of Vietnam in US Navy Special Advisors Group to improve the capability of South Vietnamese naval forces. This was part of the "win hearts and minds" program in effort to "Vietnamize" the war effort. Unfortunately, with less than a month to go in his year tour of duty, Doug was mortally wounded in an enemy ambush near Quang Ngai City. Doug died May 20, 1969 in a US Navy Hospital in Danang, Vietnam.
