The Notre Dame Dons won the 2019 Hardwood Classic behind the outstanding leadership and play of Tournament MVP, Louis Lesmond. Lesmond is now playing at Harvard while Troy D’Amico (Southern Illinois University) and Anthony Sayles (Lewis University) have also moved on. Coach Kevin Clancy's team may have lost a really strong class of players, but they have high expectations behind the outstanding play of Junior Point Guard, Sonny Williams. The Dons will be joined by some of the area's top programs. Glenbrook South is a team receiving a lot of attention due to the return of Nick Martinelli (6'6 Senior, Elon Commit) and Cooper Noard (6'2 Senior, Cornell Commit). Add Juniors RJ Davis and Gaven Marr and the #7 Ranked Titans are the favorites to win the 2021 Hardwood Classic. Fremd, Glenbrook North and Libertyville are three other teams with a lot of returning size, talent, and athleticism that should be poised for a deep run in the 43rd annual Hardwood Classic

Wheeling is excited to welcome three new teams (Glenbard North, Glenbrook North and Hampshire) to the 2021 Hardwood Classic. Glenbard North is led by JJ Hernandez and Payton Bowser. Coach Quin Hayes’ Spartans are off to a great start by beating St. Pats in their Thanksgiving Tournament Championship. Glenbrook North is led by junior sharp shooter Ryan Cohen who recently dropped 31 points off 7-7 from 3 against Wheaton North. Hampshire is coming off wins over Hononegah and Cary Grove behind the play of junior guard Joey Costabile.

Other players to watch include Adidas Davis (Buffalo Grove), Eli Schoffstall & Chris Smyros (Fremd), Chase and Cole Bonder (Libertyville), Yogi Oliff (Niles North), Owen Schneider (Prospect), Eli Aldana (St. Viator) and Aima Igiehon (Wheeling).

As you can see, the 2021 Hardwood Classic will have another deep field with some of the top teams, players, and coaches in the Chicagoland area. The 2021 Team Previews and Players to Watch list can be found here and on our Twitter page (@WHS_HWClassic).

The Wildcats of Wheeling are looking forward to hosting the 43nd annual Hardwood Classic. We will see everyone on December 27, 28, 29, & 30.
