Angela Hawkins Named Principal of Wheeling High School

High School District 214 is pleased to announce that the Board of Education has approved Angela Hawkins as the next principal of Wheeling High School, effective July 1, 2025. Hawkins’s extensive experience, dedication to students and commitment to educational excellence make her an outstanding choice to lead the school into the future.
Superintendent Dr. Scott Rowe expressed his confidence in Hawkins’s leadership, saying, “Angela Hawkins embodies the values of collaboration, innovation and academic excellence that define Wheeling High School. Her deep connection to the school community and proven ability to inspire students and staff alike position her to lead with vision and purpose. We are excited to see the remarkable work she will accomplish in this role.”
Hawkins has been a dedicated member of the Wheeling High School community since 2006. She began her career as an Italian teacher and later assumed leadership roles, demonstrating her ability to drive impactful change. Most recently, she has served as the associate principal of instruction, where she championed strategic planning, supported innovative teaching practices and fostered a culture of growth and collaboration.
In her previous role as head of the Social Science and World Language Division at Wheeling, Hawkins focused on aligning curriculum and supporting teacher development, ensuring meaningful and engaging learning experiences for students. She also spearheaded initiatives such as the Wheeling-Ravenna Cultural Exchange, which enriched students’ cultural and educational perspectives.
Hawkins holds a master’s degree in secondary school administration and principalship from Concordia University Chicago and a bachelor’s degree in secondary education and teaching from Northeastern Illinois University.
Hawkins’s appointment marks an exciting chapter for Wheeling High School, and her leadership will continue to build on the school’s strong tradition of excellence.
