The High School District 214 Board of Education is being recognized at the state level for its ongoing commitment to strong leadership and serving students, staff and the community.
District 214 is one of 53 school districts across Illinois to earn the 2026 School Board Governance Recognition honor from the Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB).
The award recognizes school boards that demonstrate effective governance practices based on IASB's Foundational Principles of Effective Governance. The program focuses on the work of the entire board, including professional development, community engagement and efforts to support student success. Boards that meet the program's requirements receive the distinction for two years.
"Our Board of Education is committed to making decisions that put students first," said Superintendent Dr. Scott Rowe. "Board members dedicate a great deal of time to understanding the needs of our schools and community, and this recognition reflects that commitment."
The recognition also highlights the importance of continued learning and collaboration among board members to help guide their districts and make informed decisions.
"Our Board members bring different perspectives and experiences to the table, but we all share the same goal of doing what's best for our students," said Board President Frank Fiarito. "We're proud of the work we do together and grateful for this recognition."
The District 214 Board of Education was formally recognized at the IASB's fall Division Meetings, where members received a plaque and recognition pins.
