Community members, local officials, business partners and District staff gathered for District 214's first-ever State of the District event, a celebration of student accomplishments and the partnerships that help make them possible.
Open to the public, the event highlighted the District's progress while providing an overview of key accomplishments, challenges and future priorities.
Board President Frank Fiarito and Superintendent Dr. Scott Rowe reflected on recent successes while sharing updates on strategic initiatives designed to strengthen opportunities for students across the District.
"District 214 has established itself as a local, state and national leader in preparing students for success," Rowe said. "We are committed to getting better every year and ensuring every decision we make can be traced back to what's best for students."
Throughout the presentation, Rowe shared key accomplishments across academics, career readiness, student engagement and operations.
Among the highlights:
Nearly 85% of District 214 students who take Advanced Placement exams earn qualifying scores for college credit.
More than 84% of the Class of 2025 graduated with dual credit coursework, with nearly half earning at least 15 college credit hours before graduation.
District 214 leads Illinois with 447 College and Career Pathway Endorsements, helping students gain real-world experience through internships, apprenticeships and career-connected learning opportunities.
The District has expanded partnerships with colleges, businesses and community organizations to provide students with hands-on learning experiences in fields ranging from aviation and construction to entrepreneurship and finance.
The event also showcased several student programs and achievements from across the District, including state championship athletic teams, nationally recognized robotics programs, innovative career pathway opportunities, student entrepreneurship competitions and award-winning arts programs.
Rowe highlighted the District's Specialized Schools programs, which provide personalized learning opportunities and support services for students with diverse academic, social-emotional and career-development needs. He also shared the success of the new READY program, designed to help students improve attendance, earn credits and reconnect with their educational goals.
In addition to celebrating current successes, the State of the District provided updates on the District's five-year strategic plan: Future 214. Developed through extensive community engagement, the plan focuses on four key priorities: inspiring learning, strengthening belonging, aligning systems and resources and fostering innovation.
Early progress includes:
A significant increase in student attendance, representing approximately 35,000 additional class periods attended compared to the previous year.
An 18% reduction in exclusionary discipline.
Expanded support systems focused on student belonging, social-emotional learning and family engagement.
Increased alignment of curriculum, instruction and academic expectations across all District schools.
The District also shared updates on operational improvements, sustainability efforts and facility planning. Recent and upcoming projects include campus improvements at Buffalo Grove, Rolling Meadows and Wheeling high schools, investments in energy efficiency and ongoing community engagement regarding future facility needs.
Rowe concluded by emphasizing the importance of collaboration in supporting student success.
"Our partnerships with families, community members, businesses and local leaders make District 214 stronger," he said. "Those partnerships create opportunities that prepare students for success in college, careers and life."
