Ken Grams

After more than 60 years of service to Elk Grove High School and High School District 214, legendary educator and coach Ken Grams has retired, leaving behind a legacy that has shaped generations of students, athletes and the Grenadier community.

A 1958 graduate of Arlington High School, Grams began his career as a student teacher at Forest View High School before joining the Elk Grove High School faculty in 1965 as a business teacher. Over the next six decades, he became one of the school's most recognizable and respected figures, serving as a teacher, coach, mentor and public address announcer.

As head softball coach, Grams built a perennial winning program at Elk Grove High School. During his tenure, the Grenadiers earned three state trophies, finishing second in state in 1982, third in 2010 and fourth in 2012. During the 2025-2026 season, Grams became the winningest softball coach in Illinois history, surpassing 1,045 career victories. His accomplishments were further recognized when he was named the 2024-2025 National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Coach of the Year, one of the nation's highest honors for high school coaches.

Beyond the softball field, Grams became a fixture at Elk Grove High School football games, serving as the public address announcer for nearly 60 years. Although he is retiring from coaching, Grams plans to continue in his role as the voice of Grenadier football.

While his accomplishments are extraordinary, Grams' greatest impact extends beyond wins and awards. Throughout his career, he mentored thousands of students, modeled integrity and sportsmanship, and helped build a culture of excellence that continues to define Elk Grove High School.

As Grams closes this remarkable chapter, he leaves behind a legacy built over six decades of service, leadership and dedication to students. His impact on Elk Grove High School and District 214 will be felt for generations to come.
