High School District 214 has approved a comprehensive Summer 2026 Capital Improvement Plan, allocating funds for critical infrastructure upgrades across multiple high schools. The projects aim to modernize facilities, improve energy efficiency and enhance student services, supporting long-term educational success.
The bulk of the work will be performed at Wheeling High School. The Student Services area will be redesigned to support the new service model, improving accessibility and efficiency to better serve our students. The redesign will bring psychological, social work and dean services into close proximity, making it easier for students to access the support they need. The auto shop and rooftop HVAC system will be upgraded to enhance air circulation, air quality and energy efficiency, while modernizing learning spaces to meet industry standards. Additionally, significant renovations will take place beneath the swimming pool to address concrete delamination, replace deteriorating electrical and plumbing systems and improve humidity control. The pool itself will remain unchanged.
Rolling Meadows High School will see a full redesign of its plaza and a new modern canopy to create a signature main entry. New walkways, seating areas and landscaping will create an inviting space for students. The improvements will enhance outdoor learning opportunities and provide a more functional social gathering area.
Buffalo Grove High School will receive a new Building Automation System to replace outdated controls. The system will provide real-time climate monitoring and automated environmental adjustments, reducing energy costs. The district is securing cost-effective, high-quality equipment through cooperative purchasing agreements.
These capital improvements represent a significant investment in schools, students and staff. The projects will modernize learning environments, enhance energy efficiency and improve student services, ensuring that District 214 remains competitive, safe and inspiring for future generations.
