BGHS Students Create Invention, Named National Pitch Finalists

After participating in last month’s D214 Startup Showcase, the team from Buffalo Grove High School competed in the National INCubatoredu Student Pitch competition. They were named one of five finalists - and the only team from Illinois - for their product, Clog Cop, a solution for clogged drains.
This year's competition was held over Zoom and watched by more than a hundred people across the country.
The Clog Cop team is made up of sophomores Melissa Diaz, Allison Finn, Alexandra Oteana, Christine Yuan, and led by teacher Karen Roberts.
"The national pitch felt like a culmination of my group's efforts over the course of this past school year to make our business idea known to the world," said Yuan. "Despite a rockier start working remotely, we learned that the business pathway is all about responding to the change and learning to be resilient amidst trying times."
“I am beyond proud of these girls for the time, effort and hard work they put into all aspects of their entrepreneurial journey. Each day during class, as well as outside of school, they have given 110% in all they do,” said Roberts.
The students say they came up with the idea while staying at home during the pandemic. The Clog Cop consists of three components, made of 100% recycled materials and is biodegradable. It connects directly to the drain to prevent clogs caused by hair, food particles and other debris.
