MMSS: Dr. Brione Lockett, 2/24/21, (All Students)
Our next Mustang Morning Speaker Series is scheduled for Wednesday, February 24th at 10:00 a.m. We will feature RMHS Alumnus, Dr. Brione Lockett who will speak to our students and staff in celebration of Black History Month. Please join us through Zoom at https://d214.zoom.us/j/ 97733834525.
The Arlington Heights native completed his bachelor’s degree in History and Africana Studies at SIUC in 2015 and has also completed the joint concurrent program in Master of Public Health in community health education and a Doctorate in Education with a concentration in Health Education. He’s a 2010 graduate of Rolling Meadows High School.Lockett serves as the Coordinator for African American/ Black student Programs at Dixie State University in St. George, Utah. Over the last few years he served as an instructor in the Africana Studies and the Education department as well as an Administrative assistant within the College of Liberal Arts at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. He has also served as a two term member of the SIU Board of Trustees.
He has worked for the House Democratic Issues/Communication staff for the Illinois House of Representatives. He also coordinated a statewide public health career fair, interned with the Great Plains Tribal Chairman’s Health board working with Native Americans, and has served as a member of a Student Outbreak Response Team (SORT) that conducted wellness checks for elderly persons living in an assisted living facility during the COVID-19 pandemic.
During his time in Carbondale, he’s had the opportunity to speak regarding student issues in a variety of venues, including addressing members of the Illinois legislature during the state’s two-year budget impasse about student debt and student welfare. He has also served with campaigns established to improve interactions between police and people with mental health needs.
In his current role, Dr. Lockett, trains and mentor’s students, leads the planning, coordination, implementation, and assessment of retention programs and workshops that serve underrepresented students, and is the advisor for the Black Student Union.
During his academic and professional life, Dr. Lockett has learned the true meaning of family and the importance of having supportive and encouraging people during difficult times.
Dr. Lockett enjoys reading, traveling, and giving back to the community. His goal is to work for organizations such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Indian Health Services (IHS) to implement programs to improve the quality of life for all individuals. In the future Dr. Lockett also plans to run for political office.

MMSS: Ms. Vonetta Wade, 2/21/21, (All Students)
We are thrilled to announce the Morning Mustang Speaker Series (MMSS), all new for 2021, which will bring guest speakers into our school to inspire our students.
The first guest speaker is Vonetta Wade. Ms. Wade is the author of Proceed Through the Uncomfortable: 52 Mindful Journal Reminders to Inspire You on Your Journey. She shares her journey from being a teen mom to experiencing a successful career in Corporate America.
Ms. Wade will meet with all Mustangs during seminar on January 21, 2021 from 10 -11 am. Afterwards, she will facilitate two-eight week co-ed small group sessions where she will use her experiences and the book as a guide in helping students "proceed through the uncomfortable". All group participants will receive the book for free.

Life after D214- March 4, 2021
All District 214 students are invited and encouraged to participate in “Life After D214” - a virtual postsecondary planning event scheduled for 6 p.m. to 8:05 p.m. on Thursday, March 4.
Scheduled for 6 to 6:30 are Introductions and Overview, featuring this video. Students may also use this time to decide which presentations they want to view during each of the evening’s two sessions.

Illinois Science Assessment Information (Junior Parents)
District 214 grade 11 students will take the Illinois Science Assessment on March 17, 2021. Per guidance from the Illinois State Board of Education, students do not have the option to complete the Illinois Science Assessment remotely from home, so all grade 11 students are expected to test at the school, even if the student regularly participates remotely.
