High School District 214 students took home top awards from the Illinois High School Association state speech finals on February 20 and February 21.
Buffalo Grove High School student Georgette Voss was named the state champion in Dramatic Interpretation. She also won fifth place in oratorical declamation.
Prospect High School student James Farquharson was a state runner-up in prose reading. Prospect student Allison O'Connor won third place in special occasion speaking.
Twenty Prospect students took home third place for their performance in the round. The cast includes Pooja Bahl, Ashley Kmiec, Elyse Wachsmuth, Alyssa O'Connell, Natalie Carioti, John Zach, Megan McLaughlin, Nina Gary, Micki Smolenski, Grace Gadow, Maggie Martorano, Lillian Hermes, Maggie Ward, Luis Rodriguez, Anthony Ciero, Ryan Kopp, Adrian Politzer, Jesse Sykes, Michael Alicoate and Abby Grott.
Elk Grove High School students Alex Diez and Nicholas Filca took home fourth place in humorous duet acting. Prospect student Andrew Pittman was awarded fifth place in original comedy.
