Township High School District 214 works closely with the middle/junior high schools that send students to our district to place students into the most appropriate courses for high school. The placement process consists of different parts.
- Online Enrollment
- PSAT 8/9 Test
- Course Placements
- High School Parent Nights
Parent information is sent home to 8th grade parents in early October about Online Enrollment, PSAT 8/9 testing, and the 9th grade placement process. We receive the parent/student information from our sender schools.
9th Grade Placement Parent Mailing 2017 (9th Carta a los padres en espanol )
If your 8th grade student will be attending a District 214 school in the 2018-2019 school year, the first step is to complete the online enrollment to enroll the student into the high school student information system.
(Online enrollment will be open in early October through November 15.)
If you missed the online enrollment window, please contact the student services department at the high school to complete a paper enrollment form.
The PSAT 8/9 is one of the assessments in the College Board’s SAT Suite of Assessments. The PSAT 8/9 measures the knowledge and skills that research shows are most essential for college and career readiness and success, at the level of content and skill appropriate for 8th and 9th grade. The assessment includes Reading, Writing and Language, and Math. This assessment is designed to provide assistance to students and parents early in the educational process. Visit https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/ for more information.
8th grade students who will be attending a District 214 high school must participate in the PSAT 8/9. We need consistent and current information on knowledge, skills, and abilities, in order to place each student in classes for a successful first year in high school. The results from this exam are used to assist with classroom placement and will help determine if students require summer school instruction prior to entering District 214. Thus, this exam is very important and should be taken seriously.
This year we will continue our Saturday placement test efforts. The logistics are as follows:
PSAT 8/9 Exam: Saturday, October 28, 2017
Make-up PSAT 8/9 Exam: Saturday, November 4, 2017
Place: High school that your child will attend next year based on your address.
District 214 boundary map.
Transportation: Students provide their own - we suggest carpooling.
Time: Arrival time: 7:45 a.m. (testing starts promptly at 8:00 a.m.)

- Placement recommendations from your student’s current teachers.
- More information may be requested from your child’s school, such as course grades or test results from standardized tests taken at the junior high/middle school.
High School Parent Nights
8th grade parent nights for incoming 9th grade students will take place in January at most of the high schools. You should receive information from the high school about the dates of the parent night.
