Students discuss #BeThePower campaign


Students from Prospect and Wheeling high schools presented the #BeThePower campaign they created and implemented in their buildings this school year to break the cycle of negativity on social media.

The Twitter campaign encourages students to use the hashtag #BeThePower and intervene when they see negativity online. By the end of next year, the goal is to have every school in the District participate in the project. 


Rep. Harris honors Board Member Cooper  


State Representative David Harris presented Board Member Miriam (Mimi) Cooper with a certificate of recognition from the House of Representatives 99th General Assembly for being among the state's most exceptional attorneys.

Cooper was named to the 2015 Illinois Super Lawyers list. This is the second time she has made the list, which recognizes no more than five percent of lawyers in the state each year. To see a photo, click here.    


Student recognition  


The Board of Education recognized two dozen outstanding students for state recognition in athletics. To see photos,click here. Honorees included: 

Buffalo Grove High School Badminton
The Buffalo Grove High School Varsity Badminton team captured second place at the IHSA State Tournament for the second year in a row. The girls won the Mid Suburban League with a perfect season of 165 wins and 0 losses - a first in MSL history. The girls won the IHSA Sectional and moved on to state, where all members won at least three matches to finish second in the state of Illinois.

Additionally, two of the girls, Julie Jambrone and Katelyn Sommers, captured the 2015 IHSA State Doubles Championship in badminton. The girls ended their season with 53 wins and 0 losses, and dominated the state tournament.

Team members are Tori Appelt, Julie Jambrone, Katie Jarosz, Anna Klipstein, Allison MacDonald, Stephanie Mayer, Kristen McClellan, Emily McLoone, Kirstin McRaith, Kelly Petersen, Jessica Schwartz andKatelyn Sommers.

Buffalo Grove High School Soccer
Buffalo Grove High School senior Sarah O'Connor was awarded All-State status after an outstanding soccer season. She was a leading scorer in the area this spring, with 29 goals and 3 assists. Sarah has been a valuable four-year member of the girls varsity soccer team. During her four years, the team compiled a record of 76 wins, 19 losses and 6 ties.

Elk Grove High School Track and Field
During his time at Elk Grove High School, senior Paul Ifianayi has been a team captain, four-year MSL Conference Champion in the 200 and 400 meter dashes and the 300 meter hurdles, and a four-time state qualifier and two-time state finalist. Paul owns the school records in the 100, 200 and 400 meter dashes and the 300 meter hurdles. This season, he was the runner-up at the state meet in the 300 meter hurdles. He is the most decorated track and field athlete in the history of Elk Grove High School, and will be running on a full academic and athletic scholarship at Illinois State University.

After the Gavel

The Board approved an intergovernmental agreement with the Wheeling Park District and a resolution authorizing a lease agreement for 122 multifunction printers.

The Board named Jason English as the division head for Math and Science at Rolling Meadows High School and Kristen Prokup as the division head for Special Education at Buffalo Grove High School.
