This active-learning course simulates the working experience of the United States National Security Council. Using methods from the Harvard Kennedy School and the Council on Foreign Relations, this course will challenge students to collaboratively solve hypothetical (yet realistic) crisis scenarios, such as the U.S.’s role in the current conflict in Ukraine. In collaboration with others, students will research and analyze complex issues, collectively reach difficult decisions, and communicate in a concise and effective manner. In this week-long course, students will role-play as an individual member of the National Security Council (eg: Secretary of State, Secretary of Defense, etc...), producing policy options that protect and promote U.S. national interests. Students entering grades 10-12 should bring their district-issued iPads; new students will receive their iPads the first day of class.
