    The pandemic has impacted students socially and emotionally, and has shifted the way they view the world. Social interactions and routines were changed abruptly. This course, coupled with the meaningful experiences we will have, can assist with building resiliency surrounding the adversity faced from the pandemic. Students will learn how to develop and recognize skills related to selfcare, empowerment, nurturing self, coping skills, reflection, self awareness, and many other techniques to become resilient.

    Activities will include- Physical activities, Guided meditations, practiced mindfulness, group exercise, nutrition tips and demonstrations, an outdoor field trip to a park/forest preserve, and a guest speaker. The goal in mind is that students apply the learned content to their personal lives going into the 22-23 school year, making them more resilient in their personal and academic lives.

    This class requires an additional $10 materials fee.

    Learn About the Human Body and Medical Innovations

    Eligible Grades: 9, 10, 11 (who have completed a biology course)
    Class Limit: 20

    In this course, students will learn about connections between biology, chemistry, and physics that are typically not taught in high school, and how these connections can help create a fuller understanding of topics like evolution, disease processes, and novel approaches for battling disease.  Students will be guided through targeted questions to hook new information and concepts to previous knowledge.  Parts of this course will be based upon a presentation to the Illinois Health Occupations Association State Conference in 2021.  It is highly recommended that students have completed at least a biology course and are seriously considering a future career in healthcare.  Healthcare career advising will also be included with this course, along with resources to help guide student searches for excellent pre-health college programs.  Please note that this is NOT an experiential science course.
