The High School District 214 Board of Education on Thursday appointed two veteran educators as associate principals of Rolling Meadows and Wheeling high schools for the 2016-2017 school year.
Arturo Senteno, a dean at Rolling Meadows High School, will serve as the school's next associate principal. Christopher Rugg, math and science division head at Elk Grove High School, has been appointed associate principal at Wheeling High School.
Both appointments take effect July 1.
Senteno, who served in the Illinois Army National Guard for 10 years, began his career as a biology teacher for English Language Learners at Rolling Meadows High School in 2001. Ten years later, he became the school's dean of students. Senteno has been active in the Illinois State Deans’ Association, most recently serving as the organization's president. He has been the recipient of five United States Army Commendation Medals and was named the 2015 Dean of the Year. Senteno earned a bachelor's degree in biology from Monmouth College and a master's degree in teaching from Aurora University.
Rugg has served as Elk Grove's division head of math and science since 2010. Prior to that role, he taught mathematics at John Hersey High School from 2002 to 2009. Rugg has played an instrumental role in the District's Math and Science Collaborative Integrated Curriculum initiatives and is a three-time recipient of the District 214 Principal’s Award. Rugg holds a bachelor's degree in math education and mathematics from Pennsylvania State University, a master's degree from Miami University in statistics and a Master of Education in educational organization and leadership from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
