CPDU Requirements

If the educator’s advanced degree(s) is/are not listed on your ECS screen (under Degrees), the ECS online program will not recognize the reduced CPDU requirement and will send a message stating the educator has not met his/her professional development requirement.
At least 50% (25% with an advanced degree) must relate to Purpose A. All education courses can be counted as Purpose A. A graduate credit semester hour equals 15 CPDUs.
Special Ed teachers must have 50% of their CPDUs relate to special education (Purpose E). The activity does not need to have the words "Special Ed" in the title. Most curriculum work is Purpose E if it attends to students with disabilities.

SPECIAL NOTE:
As of July 1, 2008, staff members using a Type 73 certificate (i.e. counselor, nurse, psychologist, social worker, or speech pathologist) are required to submit evidence of completing 80 CPDUs for 5 years (16 CPDUs per year).

Additional Information regarding Certificate Renewal

1. Since the registration on all certificates expires on June 30, all new renewal dates are shown as July 1.
	To find out which year a certificate is up for renewal:
		a. Log into private ECS account b. Click on "My Credentials" on the account HOME screen. c. [next screen] Click on "Current Credentials". d. [next screen] The "Renewal Date" can be found directly under the educator’s name in the upper right hand corner of the screen.

2. Although educators are not initially required to submit evidence of completion of professional development activities, it is important
	to retain all records as a certain number of certified staff each year is audited in the fall following the renewal of their certificate(s).
