Hersey To Host Its 17th Annual Chicagoland Showcase Show Choir Competition
February 24, 2010
While the television show Glee takes a temporary hiatus, those who have become "show choir junkies" now have the opportunity to see some real show choir action, live and in person. On Friday and Saturday, March 5-6, over 20 high schools and middle schools from four states will converge at John Hersey High School to compete in the 17th annual Chicagoland Showcase show choir competition. Hersey is located at 1900 E. Thomas in Arlington Heights.
Beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday, the middle schools will take the spotlight, and then on Saturday, some of the most talented show choirs in the country will take the center stage in this prestigious competition. The Unisex Division will kick off at 8 a.m., followed by the Festival division at 11 a.m. Starting at 1:15 pm, schools from Iowa, Indiana, Wisconsin and some of the best from the Chicagoland area will compete to make the final round of the Open Division and be named Chicagoland Showcase Grand Champion. The six best performances from the Open Division will compete head to head in this final round, which will begin at 7:30 p.m.
This year's showcase will also be a first for District 214 schools. Never before have show choirs from all six schools performed on the same stage at a single event. This year, nine show choirs from the six District 214 schools will either compete or participate in the event.
Tickets for any individual round is $10, $5 for senior citizens or students with an ID. An all day pass costs $15, $10 for senior citizens or students with an ID.
