Crisis

Township High School District 214 has developed a crisis management and communication procedure. A crisis can impact a single building or the entire district. The most important considerations in dealing with a crisis are the health, safety, and welfare of the students and staff, assisting in lawful resolution, and keeping parents, students, and staff informed.

The staff has been instructed in proper protocol in the event of a natural disaster or violent episode in the school. Each school has a designated crisis team to respond both proactively and reactively in a crisis situation. The crisis plan has been coordinated with both the local police and fire departments. In the event of an evacuation, an off-site location has been designated for students, staff and families to report to for follow-up.

The superintendent of schools is the official person in charge of the entire district. At the building level, the principal has been designated as the person in charge. The superintendent and the district’s community relations coordinator should be informed of the circumstances and apprised of the actions that are being taken.
