8th Grade Testing and High School Placement

In October or November of each academic year we administer a placement exam to all 8th grade students planning to enroll in a District 214 high school the following year.  If your child will be attending a District 214 school next year, he/she must participate in this testing.  The placement test that District 214 administers is the EXPLORE.  Additionally, the students are asked to complete a writing assessment. 

District 214 makes course placements based on a number of factors including teacher recommendations, grades, EXPLORE test scores, and a writing assessment. Additionally, EXPLORE test results will be used as criteria for placement in special programs, such as talent development, skills programs, and honors placement. 

Note for Catholic school students: 8th grade students who attend a Catholic school will take the EXPLORE at their school and will not need to take the test on a Saturday.

Note for Catholic school students:  8th grade students who attend a Catholic school will take the EXPLORE at their own school and will not need to sign up for a Saturday test date.  Parents will still need to complete the online enrollment without picking a test date.  See separate mailing below.
