Students from new Arlington Downs property to attend District 214
Families living in the new Arlington Downs apartment complex face a potential dilemma-having students living in the same residential building attending different high schools. Current boundaries between District 214 and 211 run directly though the former Sheraton hotel located at 3400 W. Euclid in Arlington Heights.
Over the course of the past few months, leaders from District 214, District 211, Cook County and the property developers have come to a consensus recommendation that allowing all resident students to attend District 214's Rolling Meadows High School makes the most sense.
In an interview with the Daily Herald, Superintendent David Schuler noted, "It wasn't a problem when it was a hotel because no one was living there and had to go to school. But now that it has turned into residential, we had a challenge. Do we want students living right across the hall from each other and going to different schools? We did not think that was appropriate."
The Board voted to set a public hearing on the issue for the November 6 meeting. Dr. Schuler said that officials with Cook County and District 211 are looking to finalize the details as quickly as possible after all required public hearings.
